The Canberra Choral Society (CCS) is excited to present Elijah, Felix Mendelssohn’s magnificent Biblical masterpiece. This much anticipated event is part of our annual Come and Sing programme and completes our successful 2024 concert year.
CCS has assembled impressive forces for this stunning Oratorio which reflects the influences of Handel and Bach and is rarely performed in Canberra. Starring the internationally acclaimed operatic Bass Teddy Tahu Rhodes in the title role, together with soloists from the National Opera in Canberra, Soprano Sonia Anfiloff, Mezzo Soprano Christina Wilson, and Tenor Damian Arnold. Joining them on stage will be CCS’s 70-strong choir, augmented by 100 ‘Come and Sing’ choristers from the Canberra community, and a 42-piece orchestra sourced from Canberra’s finest players.
Directing these substantial forces will be one of Australia’s leading choral conductors, the dynamic Brett Weymark OAM, Artistic and Music Director of Sydney Philharmonia Choirs.
CCS looks forward to welcoming the Canberra community and friends to this powerful and moving musical event, a mix of fire and brimstone, human drama and lyrical beauty. Elijah is a precious gem of the choral repertoire, not to be missed!
